unimeet — University Event App
As a university junior, I designed 'unimeet,' a startup app to unify all university events with gamification, which was unfortunately halted by the COVID-19 pandemic just as it began to grow.
problem
Despite hundreds of clubs at universities, there was no central, effective mobile platform for them to promote events. Students struggled to discover events at their own or other campuses, and clubs couldn't efficiently reach potential attendees.
solution
"unimeet" was a mobile app that aggregated events from all participating universities into a single feed. It offered one-tap registration, a "Discover" page for last-minute events, and a gamification system (leaderboards, badges) with sponsored prizes to boost engagement. This structure enriched student social life and gave clubs clear visibility.
This project's story began when a developer friend from my internship at Fazla Gıda said, "I'm launching a startup." I was a junior in university and immediately accepted the chance to design the UI for his exciting idea. This was a passion project where I tackled a real-world problem during my early days as a designer.
Our goal was to simplify the scattered event calendars on campus and to reward participation. Users could discover events on the main feed and join with one tap. The real differentiator was gamification; we designed a system with badges to create "friendly competition" and sponsored prizes for the week's most active users. This was aimed at keeping users continuously engaged.
The app launched and was just beginning to grow when the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020. All physical events were canceled, and the core dynamic "unimeet" was built on disappeared. The project was unfortunately forced to shut down, but I am still proud of having designed such a comprehensive interface with my experience at the time.
